Development Log #074
Closed Alpha Testing Timeline – March 18th 2023
You may have noticed that less and less features are being added and we’re starting to fine tune the ones we have. Where we are at currently there are only a few additions that need to be made. The rest will come from playtesting.*
Development Roadmap
The roadmap I drew up years ago was off with regard to time, but I did stick to a sensible versioning system.
- Versions 0.1 -> 0.5 Engine Development
- Versions 0.6 -> 0.7 Game Development
- Version 0.7.x> –We are here–
- Version 0.8 -> Alpha Testing / Work out ALL mechanics
- Version 0.9 -> Beta Testing / Last 1% (aka 99% of work)
- Version 1.0 -> Release
Version 0.8
The list above glosses over A LOT of things, but essentially we’ll be moving to v0.8 soon. I have everything I want to do in terms of game mechanics squished into 10 Scenarios: the vertical slice demo.
This is where I’ll be able to balance stats/combat/mechanics etc. This part is hard to measure in terms of time, but I’ll need all the help I can get!
Version 0.9
By the time 0.9 rolls around, mechanics should be somewhat sound and I will hopefully have the game story converted into scenarios which will then be tested in 0.9.
There will also be a public demo at this point if everything goes as planned™️. It’ll feature 3 Scenarios, most likely the first three.
Scenario Info
I throw around this term, scenario, a lot. To be clear, a scenario is basically a single contained playable part along with any story that come before/after. Each scenario consists of at least 1 playable map (i.e. a battle or something) & multiple story sequences.
As an example, for the 10 scenarios already completed, they are comprised of 10 battle maps and about ~43 “sequences” of story. This alone is about 8+ hours of gameplay.
Possible Release Date
With the Scenario Editor I can get about 60%-100% of a full Scenario done in a day. Now this depends on length and complexity of course, but it’s a pretty streamlined process that goes rather quickly. I don’t have a hard # of Scenarios yet, but it’ll most likely be around 30-40.
Basic math puts the remaining development time at around 2+ yrs, during which I will also be conducting a series of alpha and beta testing.
I left some room for error, but I’d be very happy with a late 2025 release.
It’s not a small game & I am just a single person, but it’s the game I’ve always wanted to make and so long as I am alive, I will finish it!
*Just a note, while this exact roadmap has changed a bit, the general idea is still being implemented as of 2024.
Note: Remember, some of the images and gameplay depicted here may be outdated and does not represent the current state of the game!
