Story
Dusk Tactics takes place in a land said to be forged by the Elementals themselves.
Background
According to records, civilization dates back to roughly a thousand years before the modern era. It is said that even in the earliest of days, Feylins had already formed peaceful, agrarian societies. Whereas Humans, who made up the majority of the population, remained mostly nomadic for centuries before planting their first seed.
Most details differ depending on which race it’s from, but one thing they all have in common is the timeline. Even the Dreykins, who mainly kept to themselves have a similar origin date.
Humans, known for their abundance spread throughout the land, whereas Feylins, known for their piety had deep connections to their home and rarely left. Over time, some Feylins would live side by side with Humans, but Dreykins, on the other hand, rarely lived with the other races. As such little is known about them.
Physiologically the races were not all that different as they mostly resembled Humans. Feylins had long, pointed ears and tended to be a bit taller on average and Dreykins, while shrouded in mystery, are rumored to have large, majestic wings. There are records of other races, the most common being a so-called ‘horned race’ with red-colored skin. However, most of these have been dismissed as fabrications.
Even with a relatively short history the continent lacked not for bloodshed.
Humans, easily the most aggressive race, relied upon fighting to resolve most problems. When the Humans began building settlements, there were fewer conflicts, but those that did happen became much larger in scale.
"Where once man roamed, he now lays claim as if it were his own, to settle, to reap and to sow, and then to war."
This quote marked the point in time where many Feylins realized they could no longer ignore the Humans. Some chose to help the Humans, to live with them, and fight with them. Others maintained their isolation, and some grew to resent Humans.
Before long Humans, Feylins, and others had built up large tribes which in turn banded together forming the great nations that make up the Northern Continent.
After only a few centuries, as the population increased due to agriculture, basic medicine, and a stable governing power, many of these nations started to advance towards a new age, one of Science and Reason.
These include the Kingdoms of Acedia and Superbia, two of the larger powers who quite recently ended a border dispute that almost turned into a full fledged war. Nevertheless when these two countries clash, their neighbors can’t help but be dragged in.
Our story begins with a look into the lives of Belavosi Grandoff and his travel companion, Miranda Donovan. We find them arriving in a small town located in Eastminster, part of the southern region of Acedia. They appear to be far from home, but are they running from something or simply taking in the countryside.
Among the aristocracy of Acedia there exist the upper and lower Houses. For hundreds of years, since the nation’s founding, these Houses have ruled over this Kingdom. Many of them date back to the original founders. Several hundred alms south-east of Eastminster lies Lucidia, which is ruled over by House Vyce. While it is a lower house, it exists among the upper echelon of their peers not only because their ancestors were founders, but because the long lived Countess Anastasia Vyce, head of House Vyce, has led her people to prosper at a time when much of the Kingdom is in peril.
