The World of Dusk Tactics

Post by CmdrLee »

So has the story (and its world) been written yet? Anything to share about the world of Dusk Tactics?
...well, that could have been planned better.

The ideas have been worked on for years now, going back to 2011.

As of November 2019, the story writing began in earnest, so it's still early, but the concepts have been in the works for some time.

I've been working on the history of the world, to better create and make sense of the modern day layout. This includes various nations, their rulers, social classes, the system of Orders (or guilds) that ties into the Job System and the outline of the story.

I am hoping to be able to include the starting chapter of the story in the demo, in order to test out the Scenario Editor and the method in which I construct scenes, but it's of course subject to change.

I do have some stuff to add here, including some history behind the two nations at the forefront of the game, Superbia and Acedia. It should be up within the next few days!

Speaking of the world and the lore, how linear are you planning the game to be? I'm just curious because I know that a lot of tactical RPGs don't have much "exploration." For example, Final Fantasy Tactics only had a small handful of locations that weren't unlocked through the main story, and they were all near the end. Are you planning on having side-quests?

It sounds like you have put a lot of time and effort into your world-building, and I'm excited to experience it in-game.

I sincerely apologize for the long delay. Much of the early lore has been posted on the website, so hopefully you've seen it. As we get closer to the demo release I will be setting up a discord so as to better help me keep up with the community.

I'm currently doing a lot of work setting up the game on various websites in preparation for the upcoming IWOCon where Dusk Tactics will have a booth.

While it will be more similar to Final Fantasy Tactics/Tactics Ogre, I will definitely be adding quests/side-quests that will allow you to explore nearby areas and character backgrounds. Mostly things not touched on in the main quest.

My ultimate goal is to allow choices that affect what your gameplay experience is like, but due to budget/scope limitations, my first priority is to get a complete game released.

I want to emphasize that I definitely plan to give it as much exploration as possible as that's something I really love in games.

Thanks so much for the question and I am REALLY sorry about the delay in answering you!
